City of Mississauga and
Region of Peel Councillor

Joe Horneck was elected as Councillor for Ward 6 in 2022 and serves on both Mississauga City Council and Regional Council of Peel. His work at City Hall is focused on three core priorities: safer streets, fair taxes and strong neighbourhoods.

A Consultative Approach

Joe believes in direct community consultation, and that residents should play an active role in shaping decisions that affect their neighbourhoods. He regularly gathers feedback through conversations with residents, town hall meetings, door knocking, community events, surveys and day-to-day contact with the Ward 6 office.

Safe Streets

As a strong advocate for road safety, Joe has worked to deliver safer streets through new signalized crosswalks, speed humps, intersection improvements and enhanced road markings. He also championed the creation of the City’s Transit Committee, which he chairs, to strengthen public transit in Mississauga. Joe believes residents of all ages and abilities should have access to safe and effective transportation — including those who cannot drive or afford a vehicle.

Fair Taxes

Drawing on his background in finance, Joe is known for his detailed oversight of City and Regional budgets. He has successfully introduced initiatives that have saved taxpayers millions of dollars, while also advancing additional cost-saving proposals aimed at protecting residents from unnecessary tax increases. Joe currently serves as Chair of the Audit Committee for both the City of Mississauga and Peel Region, where he works to ensure accountability and responsible financial management.

Strong Neighbourhoods

Joe is also committed to building stronger neighbourhoods. He regularly holds in-person neighbourhood town hall meetings across Ward 6, organizes community events such as movie nights in local parks, and supports residents in coming together through neighbourhood associations and Neighbourhood Watch groups. Joe believes strong neighbourhoods are built when residents feel informed, connected and heard.

Family, Finance and Community Service

Joe’s politics are rooted in the community thanks to his love of family, head for numbers and commitment to giving back.

Joe lives in Ward 6 with his wife, Laura Naismith, an education scientist, and their three children, Alex, Claire and James, who attend local schools. The Horneck family are active users of Mississauga’s parks, trails and recreation programs and are passionate about maintaining the high quality of life that makes Mississauga a great place to live and raise a family.

Before being elected, Joe worked as a senior banking professional at several major financial institutions, serving in Vice President and Director-level roles and managing teams across three continents.

Joe holds a Master’s Degree in International Political Economy from University of Warwick and a Double Honours BA in History and Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University.
